Paradise in Oregon

Columbia River Gore - Oregon

After hiking a short 1 mile well groomed trail, you arrive at a beautiful 130 foot Wahclella Falls. If you take the lower loop, you will pass by a small 40 foot Munra Falls.

Directions: Take exit 40 for Bonneville Dam and drive south to the parking area for Tanner Creek Trail. The trail is flat for the first .2 miles then the trail begins to climb for another .8 miles. At .6 miles, the trail splits off to the right to a lower trail that takes you by Munra Falls. There is no clear view of Munra Falls along this lower trail and no good way to photograph it at all from the trailhead. You would need to make your way down to the creek and wade up the creek until you reach Munra Falls. I haven't done it so I don't know if it is possible. Continue on the lower trail for another .2 miles and you will come to another bridge for a great distant view of Wahclella Falls. Continue over the bridge and make your way up closer to the waterfall for a nice close-up shot. Or make your way down to the creek and cross over the slippery river rock to the right of the waterfall for another view. If you don't want to get wet, you can do what I did. From the beginning of the bridge from the lower trailhead, make your way down to the rock below and carefully climb down between the bridge and the giant boulder to your right. Climb up the other side of this giant boulder and over the other side for a view of Wahclella Falls as seen above. Best time to Photograph: Approximately around 11:00 a.m. when the sun has risen high over the tall canyon walls and tree line. Photo © copyright by Erik and Melissa Barnes.
