A view from the upper bridge of the lower cascading portion of upper Multnomah Falls. A narrow band of gushing water flows over the upper tier and fans out into a cascading effect towards the lower part of the upper falls. From here, the water runs down to another waterfall just below here.
Towering to over 611 feet, Multnomah Falls is probably the most visited and main waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Trying to make your way through the hundreds of people to the upper bridge for pictures can be quit a challenge during the summer months. If you want a parking spot, arrive early in the morning to be guarenteed a spot. Just before sunset, you might get lucky. Anytime after 9:00 a.m. and you can forget it. The food is a little pricey. Plan on spending $6.00 just for an ice cream cone and soda. Or NOT!!! You can imagine how much you will spend in their restaurant. OUCH!!!
Directions: Take exit 31 and park in the day use area. Walk under the freeway in the tunnel and make your way up to the lower view area near the snack bar and restaurant. Continue up the trail another .2 miles to the upper bridge view of Multnomah Falls. There are other trails from here that continue on to other waterfalls nearby. Best time to Photograph: Whenever you can find a parking spot. Or, 1-2 hours before sunset. Photo © copyright by Erik and Melissa Barnes.
