An alpen glow sets in over the Sawtooth Range. I tried this same shot during the heaviest part of winter this year and I was neck high in snow trying to make my way to the edge of the tree line. At an elevation of only 6,500 feet, just think how difficult it can be to travel further in during the middle of winter in the Sawtooth's.
ue on past the Sawtooth Hatchery on your left about 1 mile and the turn-off for Redfish Lake Rd. is on your left. Drive .3 miles and you will come to Little Redfish Lake on your right. You can't miss it. There is a sign for Little Redfish Lake campground. Drive just past the campground turn-off about .2 miles and there is parking along side the road on your right. Walk about 50 feet and your at Little Redfish Lake with a view of the Grand Mogul on your far left then Horstman Peak to the right of that, Thompson Peak and Williams Peak on the far right. Continue down Redfish Lake Rd. and you will arrive at Redfish Lake. There are many different trailheads taking you to different areas within the Sawtooths. During the summer months, pay $5.00-$10.00, and you can take a short boat ride across Redfish Lake cutting out several miles of trails. When you arrive at the end of Redfish Lake, there are more trails taking you deeper into the Sawtooths. Best time to Photograph: Sunrise. Photo © copyright by Erik and Melissa Barnes.
